The Shazdeh Garden in Mahan

The Shazdeh Garden (Prince Garden), considered as one of the most beautiful traditional gardens in Iran, with an area of almost 3/5 hectares, is located about 3 km from the city of Mahan (Kerman region) in the heart of the desert on the ancient route of the Silk Road.
Shazdeh Garden was built in 1850, rebuilt in the 1890s and dates back to the end of the Qajar era. In the construction of the Shazdeh Mahan garden, bricks, stone, plaster were used along with a mixture of clay, mud and stucco, and the art of tile work. Shazdeh Garden has two pavilions on the eastern and western sides.

Different parts of the Shazdeh garden:
1- Portal entrance and porch of the house in the lower part of Shazdeh Garden; Two-story building with unfinished arch designed with majolica that served both the entrance and residence and place to observe the panoramic view of the environment. In addition to this entrance there are also other ways to access the Shazdeh Garden.

2- The building on the upper part of the garden located in the highest part of the complex; this shahneshin  or the main building was used as permanent or seasonal residence of the owner and in front of it there is a large basin with five fountains whose water flows in a stone basin and continues its course in the form of ten streams similar to waterfalls. Even the secluded garden is located in an area behind this building and it was a more intimate and separate environment.

3- Hammam (Bath), which is located at the top of the Shazdeh Garden and includes some rooms of different sizes and architectural decorations, such as the dome and the vault inside.

4- the guardian's house and the Scout tower that was the permanent residence of the main guard of the garden.

Today, Shazdeh garden is covered by evergreen trees that retain the wind, shady trees, ornamental plants and fruit trees and, in addition to a historical monument, it is considered a pleasant amusement park. The flow of water in the middle of the garden that is fed by canals, swimming pools, fountains, flowers and the smell that spreads in the environment, reminds us of the descriptions of a thousand and one nights. This complex, which has been inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, has a hotel and a restaurant.
